But it happened

Hideo Kojima is one of the most prestigious game designers of all time, delivering to players all around the world the stunning experience that is the Metal Gear Solid franchise. His intricate story-telling mechanics and the rich, but sometimes confusing, plot made the series very popular.

But, as MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots was released, Kojima revealed that this would be his last MGS-related project. However, as he declared a few weeks ago, there was a big pressure on him to create more titles in the same universe. He buckled under them, but, even though he wanted to have a minimal interference with the new MGS: Rising and MGS: Peace Walker titles, he ended up getting seriously involved in them.

“At first, I was just going to create the overall guidelines and concepts for the project, and leave it in the hands [of] my excellent staff,” Kojima said. “I was going to have a hand in the project as a producer, and make titles other than MGS. But, I set the game in the South American country of Costa Rica and created a story with themes about nuclear deterrence and the cold war. It looked as if it might be very confusing to young people, because of generational differences. So, in the end I finally said, 'I'll do it.'”

Kojima then talked about MGS: Rising and how “it's a completely different kind of action than what has appeared in the series so far.” He went on to say that, “I'll be working more deeply on the project then [sic.] a normal producer,” making a lot of fans even more excited about this new title, which will star Raiden as the main character.

Overall, it seems that it is a true love-hate relationship between Kojima and his famous franchise, one that might possibly end when these two titles will be launched. But don't get your fingers crossed about the designer moving to other projects just yet.
