Google Desktop for Mac was recently updated with several goodies for the English users and with new languages for the rest of the world. Although the Mac version of the offline search application is not too old, the Mountain View company has been continuously focused on the program and implemented no less than 9 new languages: Chinese Simplified and Traditional, Dutch, UK English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. Moreover, the English consumers who use the main version of the application are quite lucky because the new version comes with a lot of improvements. As usual, the updates are distributed through the auto-update feature so there is no need to download the application unless you want to update it manually.

"So with this launch, we worked side by side with Googlers in Japan, France, Germany, and many other countries to make sure the product meets that goal in each of the 9 new languages. Part of that work was improving search and indexing support for non-Roman languages such as Chinese and Japanese," the Google Desktop team stated.

This new Google Desktop for Mac update will require the reboot of your computer as the application will re-build the index of your file in order to "improve the quality of searches across all languages." The parent company mentioned in the release notes that the new indexing process might slow your computer and it recommends you to assure that you have enough space to complete the operation.

"During initial indexing, Google Desktop may have a noticeable impact on your computer, especially if your hard drive is highly fragmented or low on disk space. We've designed Google Desktop to be usable - if a bit sluggish - during this period. Once indexing is complete, your computer should return to its normal, speedy self. To expedite indexing, we recommend that you have at least 10% disk space remaining and defragment your hard disk before installing."

According to the change log, Google Desktop for Mac is now able to ignore the spam message discovered on your email clients but it also brings support for the contact groups in Address Book and Entourage.
