Everybody would like to access the Internet for free, and you can really say that you've hit the jackpot when you find a hotspot and an area around it that you can use for Wardriving (accessing a wireless network without its administrator's agreement).
However, this practice is as immoral as it is illegal, and the first case in which
an Internet surfer has been charged with such a crime and arrested has just been recorded in Florida a few days ago.
Benjamin Smith III, aged 41, will have to appear before a court of law this month, being charged of illegal access to a wireless network, which is considered to be a felony.
The police pointed out that Smith admitted his guilt, stating that he has connected to Richard Dinon's network. The network administrator had spotted Smith several times, while he was waiting in car in front of Dinon's house and working on a laptop.
In any case, according to the security experts, this type of fraudulent connection is a much more widespread habit, and the prevention of "wireless internet theft" could be carried out by implementing a system which requires passwords upon connection or some other type of encryption.
