It seems that every day there's a new HTML5 game that highlights just how much can be done with standard web technology. We're not at the point yet where HTML5 gaming becomes the norm, but we're approaching it.
Last week, Microsoft teamed up with Atari to bring some of the famed game company's classics to the web, rebuilt and reimagined using HTML5, JavaScript, hardware acceleration and so on.
One student, Thibaut Despoulain, did his own reimagining of a classic for the web, though his inspiration is a bit more modern, the Wipeout series.
His game,
HexGL, takes the core concept, futuristic ships racing at high speeds, but also some of the philosophies, like the ability to run at the full resolution of the console it belonged to at a high frame-rate.
Hitting 60 fps is key to enjoying this type of fame, which is why there are three quality settings, Mobile, Mainstream and Ultra.
