The police officers who handled the case say the heroin found in the diaper is worth about $2,500 (€2,000)

Earlier this week, a rather young man in the US was taken into police custody after officers found a bag of heroin hidden inside a diaper worn by one of his daughters. Apparently, it was the man himself who stashed the drug in the little girl's nappy.

An investigation into this rather peculiar incident is now ongoing. It's safe to assume that, when authorities get around to presenting their case in front of a judge, the man will be sentenced to spending some time in prison.

How the police found the heroin bag

It is understood that the incident occurred in the city of Birmingham in Alabama. Information shared with the public says that the police approached the man, identified as 23-year-old Kenneth Bell, after somebody contacted them and told them that he was dealing drugs.

Having pulled him over, the police had a drug sniffing dog inspect his ride. The pooch alerted authorities that the vehicle did in fact have narcotics hidden somewhere inside it. However, officers failed to find the heroin on their own.

As detailed by The Inquisitr, it was the man's other child, a 5-year-old girl, who told them that, not long before being pulled over, her dad had hidden something inside her sister's diaper. When the girls' mother removed the diaper, the cops found a heroin bag hidden inside it.

The bag recovered from the 2-year-old girl's diaper contained some 14 grams (0.5 ounces) of heroin. Police officers say that, all things considered, the value of the narcotics found in Kenneth Bell's possession amounts to about $2,500 (€2,000).

Just hours after being taken into police custody, the 23-year-old father of two was released on $25,000 (roughly €20,000) bail. However, he will still have to answer for his actions in front of a court of law, authorities in Birmingham, Alabama, reassure.

The man's daughters are safe and sound

After Kenneth Bell was arrested, his two daughters were entrusted to their mother, who was found to have no connection to the man's drug dealing activities and, therefore, was not arrested. Officers say that, although used to traffic narcotics, the girls are both safe and sound.

Just to make sure that the man's daughters can properly be looked after by their mother, state child welfare authorities are now investigating this case as well. Hopefully, the woman will prove that she can take care of her two girls and not endanger them in any way.

Interestingly enough, it appears that 23-year-old Kenneth Bell is not the first parent ever to try and smuggle drugs by hiding them inside their child's diaper. On the contrary, several similar cases have been documented over the years.
