In addition to seven new free heroes, there is also a new hero and skin sale live on the in-game shop

Blizard Entertainment has just rolled a fresh batch of free characters into its free-to-play hero brawler Heroes of the Storm.

The game has recently entered closed beta, and more and more invites are being sent out to players each and every day. Heroes of the Storm spent a good portion of 2014 in a closed technical alpha, and it's shaping up to be quite an exciting experience.

The game offers challenging but friendlier mechanics, based on the multiplayer online battle arena genre's hits Dota 2 and League of Legends, but introduces a neat twist where you don't have to worry about farming, last hitting and items, but instead shift your focus to team interactions and map objectives.

This week, February 24 to March 2, we get a new batch of seven heroes, starting with the ubiquitous Raynor (he's been featured quite a lot in free rotations), Muradin, Arthas, Tyrande, and Brightwing, available to everyone who is part of the closed beta.

Players who have already reached level 12 can also enter battles as Nazeebo, a top-notch specialist, and those who are level 15 or above will be able to get a taste of Thrall, the Warchief of the Horde, available as a free hero for the first time since his release in mid-January.

A new weekly sale

Overall, it's a pretty good selection of free heroes, with the only caveat that players who aren't yet level 12 won't be able to fulfill quests that demand that they play a specialist role.

In addition to the new free hero rotation, developer Blizzard Entertainment has also kicked off a brand new weekly sale on the in-game shop, running for the entire week, and consisting of a 50 percent discount on Stitches, as well as on the Explorer Li Li Skin and on the San'do Illidan Skin.

The latest hero added to the ever-growing pool of playable characters is actually a rather rowdy trinity, in the form of the lovable Lost Vikings, Eric, Baleog, and Olaf, the protagonists of 1992's puzzle platformer.
