Blizzard is set to roll out another big update for its Heroes of the Storm multiplayer experience later today, May 12, bringing the new hero Kael'thas Sunstrider, as well as plenty of modifications for existing characters, mechanics, or features.

Heroes of the Storm has already spent about five months in a closed beta stage, and later this month the test phase is set to enter open beta status, prior to the final launch on June 2.

Ahead of those major milestones, Blizzard has taken down the servers for the title in the Americas region, and it's set to do the same in Europe and Asia in the following hours.

A major update goes live very soon

Once the title is back online, players will notice a major update already applied to it, as the May 12 patch brings a suite of new things and modifications to Heroes of the Storm, according to the official website.

Of course, the biggest change refers to the latest hero added to the game's roster, in the form of Kael'thas Sunstrider. The Blood Elf mage from the Warcraft series brings a suite of fire-based abilities designed to scorch enemies and everything in his path.

The patch also brings forth performance improvements for the general game, not to mention bug fixes that should eliminate some of the problems reported by players in recent times. Enhanced visual effects are also coming to various heroes, abilities, and visual items, so don't worry if things look a bit better after the patch.

In terms of hero balance, a suite of big changes have been made to Diablo and ETC, while other characters got slightly smaller modifications, such as Nova, Abathur, Raynor, Azmodan, Gazlowe, Murky, Sylvanas, The Lost Vikings, and much more.

You can check out the full changelog for the latest Heroes of the Storm patch below. Bear in mind that the update is automatically applied to the game once its servers go back online after the planned maintenance. Only a small download will be available via the Battle.net client.
