Battlefield of Eternity introduces new mechanics

Despite the fact that Heroes of the Storm was only just officially launched after a long period of beta, the development team at Blizzard is already willing to talk about an official expansion for the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena experience, designed to introduce a range of conflicts built around the Diablo franchise.

Eternal Conflict will apparently be introduced at the end of June, and the studio has not yet talked about actual prices attached to it.

The biggest addition coming to Heroes of the Storm is a new map, called Battlefield of Eternity.

It will have a central combat arena that is surrounded by two lanes, with Immortals for each team to defend and then follow into battle.

Alan Dabiri, the technical director, working on Heroes of the Storm, tells Polygon that many fans have been asking for locations that they can associate with actual Blizzard titles.

He adds, "Up until now, we've had all these different battlegrounds, but they haven't been in our Blizzard universe. This is the first opportunity for players to see one of their favorite game worlds... and we'll keep doing that."

It's unclear whether there are clear plans to continue to create such thematic maps and how quickly they can be delivered to Heroes of the Storm.

The Butcher is coming to the MOBA

The new character that players will be able to get is the first major boss of the Diablo franchise, who will be portrayed as an assassin who can use his previous dead enemies to improve his own power.

He can use Hamstring to slow enemy heroes, while Ruthless Onslaught gives him a way to quickly close down distances and deliver damage.

The Butcher's Brand allows the characters to get back 75 percent of the damage that the target gets and the most powerful attacks are Lamb to the Slaughter, which links a hero to a pole and keeps them there for a period, and Furnace Blast, an area-of-effect attack.

Blizzard has said that it wants to introduce new heroes for Heroes of the Storm about every three weeks, but presumably the launch of new maps will take longer for the development team.
