Plenty of characters are quite good in HotS

Heroes of the Storm has just exited its beta stage and is now available as a final game, delivering its multiplayer online battle arena experience to anyone interested in trying out the free-to-play title.

While the game has quite a few interesting aspects, as well as some areas where more work is needed, one of the most interesting, especially when it comes to MOBAs with lots of characters, is that almost all characters are viable in the regular, competitive, and professional scenes.

Plenty of heroes are quite good

As of right now, there are 37 characters in Heroes of the Storm, coming from universes like Warcraft, Starcraft, or Diablo, and spread out across four roles: Warrior, Assassin, Support, and Specialist.

While the number of heroes pales in comparison to the 100+ rosters of Dota 2 or League of Legends, in HotS almost all of them have winning abilities that can turn the tide of battle.

Sure, some of them might be a bit too powerful right now, while others need a slight buff, but none of them is in the "worst" category. Given enough time and practice, any character from HotS can be used to their fullest abilities.

This makes playing the characters you like, from a visual or lore standpoint much easier, as you don't have to worry about it "not being in the meta" due to poor abilities, recent nerfs, or other downsides.

Things might change in the future, as a MOBA title like HotS is going to receive plenty of updates and balance tweaks over time, but for now, things are looking pretty good for Blizzard's multiplayer project.

Unfortunately, while we're talking about heroes, it's becoming clear that, at least for the Warrior and Assassin roles, there are some characters that skirt the borders, from Thrall to Raynor or Falstad, as they can easily trick beginners with their increased survivability or their hulky overall design.
