Play as Boromir

Pandemic is sending word that it has just put out a new downloadable content pack for its The Lord of the Rings: Conquest game. The new content is set to keep the title interesting for all players enthusiastic about taking part in all the pivotal battles of the War of the Ring, from the defense of Helm's Deep to the final assault on the Gates of Moria. The DLC package can be downloaded from Xbox Live or from the PlayStation Network, for the price of 9.99 dollars.

The new DLC contains two important additions to the game. The Heroes side is enlarged by three new special characters: the dark side is getting Gothmog, who seems like a cross between a vegetable and a nightmare, while the good side is receiving Boromir, who might live to see the end of the war under your control, and the Elven Arwen, who, if I remember correctly, doesn't see much combat in the movies or the books.

On the Map side of the DLC, you will get four new areas where you can fight. Two are for the Hero Arena mode, where Heroes can be pitted against one another. Another two maps can be used in the normal multiplayer matches: one set during the Battle of the Last Alliance, and the other in the forest of Amon Hen.

The initial release of The Lord of the Rings: Conquest was greeted with a general lack of interest. The game is missing the engagement that has made the Star Wars Battlefield games so loved and successful. The character classes were judged to be too generic, while the huge battle promised by the comments on the back cover were proven to be just small scale skirmishes where the hordes of Sauron only came piecemeal, giving the players a chance to defend themselves easily. It's unlikely that the DLC released by Pandemic will attract a huge number of gamers to the title.
