62-year-old Paul Marshallsea, of Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales, made the news for his dragging a 6-foot (1.8-m) shark back to sea, as it swam in shallow waters near a beach full of children.

However, his heroic act was caught on video and went viral online, prompting the man's dismissal from his job.

His actions may have been brave, but Marshallsea, who was on the beach in Australia at the time, failed to let his employers know that he was going on vacation.

Instead, he told the children's charity he worked for that he was taking sick days. Both him and his wife were fired for breach of trust.

“The breakdown of the trustees’ confidence and trust in you and your ability to perform the role is so great that we find that dismissal is the only course of action we can recommend,” an organization spokesperson wrote in a letter, according to the Independent.
