An indie strategy / roguelike hybrid from the creator of Highgrounds is currently undergoing a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, aiming to find loving homes sometime in the future.

The game is dubbed “The 5-Minute Civilization” on the Kickstarter page, although its official name is Hero Generations.

It’s made by Scott Brodie, founder of Heart Shaped Games, who decided to revive his 2011 IndieCade Finalist strategy game and release it into the wild.

Hero Generations is a fast-paced and quick-playing turn based strategy game that blends 4X games with roguelike action, where players get to control a rapidly aging hero that explores a procedurally generated world, looking for fame and fortune and most of all for a suitable mate to settle down with.

When an avatar dies, the player continues the journey as an offspring, and depending on the choices made as parent, the child will either be able to take on the perils of the world or will suffer from poor planning.

Hero Generations allows players to play through an entire heroic life in under five minutes, but being able to chain together a lineage spanning millennia takes hours of strategic play.

The game is being developed for the PC and Mac platforms, and the prototype walkthrough video below shows Hero Generations’ basic gameplay.
