As Apple’s October 22 event draws closer, new leaks emerge

A new set of pictures showing Apple’s new iPad mini 2 has been leaked in France, revealing some new color variations and an unchanged design, meaning the tablet’s key differentiator will probably be a Retina display.

Nowhereelse.fr doesn’t say where these photos come from (though it appears the original source is Touch Lab), but the images are very high quality and very credible indeed.

One thing I found particularly puzzling in their Frenchy reporting is that the Space Gray color is all they mention, when there’s also an all-new darker model shown in the photos, microns apart from the focal point of discussion.

Why they don’t bother to say anything about the black one remains a mystery, but it seems Apple has settled on three colors for the new iPad mini 2. And since the design hasn’t changed at all, you can bet these babies will have a higher-resolution screen (and maybe, just maybe, a fingerprint sensor as well).

Updated: as pointed out by one of our readers, it seems the black unit is an existing iPad mini model (not a new iPad). Stain on me, folks.
