Last week saw the release of the first official photo of Yaya DaCosta as Whitney Houston in the upcoming Lifetime biopic, produced and directed by Angela Bassett, who was a good friend of the late diva’s. Today, we’re also getting a proper look at the man playing Bobby Brown.

The biopic is happening without support from the Houston family and, from what Bassett has already told the press, will not focus on the more sordid details of the singer’s life.

The entire world knows that she had a drug problem, so this particular film will not bring that up again. Neither will it focus too much on her death, which was also caused by drugs.

Instead, Bassett promised, it would remind the world what an amazing singer and woman Whitney was, but also what a beautiful love story she shared with Bobby Brown – before everything took a turn for the worse.

The photo above is of DaCosta and Arlen Escarpeta in character, as Whitney and Bobby circa 1997, looking young, hopeful, and very much in love.

“I really just want to tell a story about a boy and a girl who fell in love,” Bassett said in a recent interview. So far, she’s doing a good job with these two actors. We’ll see if their chemistry translates to moving pictures as well when the biopic is out.
