Warner Bros. is confident that the rising interest in superhero productions, both on the big and the small screen, will finally make it possible for the first female-lead superhero television series to happen. The studio is also hoping that that series will be their very own “Supergirl.”

Announced last year, “Supergirl” will go into production in the following days for the pilot, which, Warners hopes, will be picked up by CBS for a full season.

Melissa Benoist from “Glee” stars as Superman’s famous cousin, and we can now get a better appreciation of how she’ll look in the pilot / series, thanks to 2 photos of her in costume (designed by Oscar-winner Colleen Atwood). You will find them in the gallery.

The concept for the series is to have Kara Danvers (Kara Zor-El) learning to accept her superhero powers to fight crime. She too escaped the destruction on Krypton on Earth, but she has denied her true nature for years, afraid that regular people would be afraid of her, or worse.

“Supergirl” is produced by Greg Berlanti, whose previous credits include “Arrow” and “The Flash,” and will star Mehcad Brooks, Laura Benanti, Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan and former TV Superman Dean Cain.
