J.D. Power study indicates that customers are very sensitive to price changes

When asked which features they’d like to see on their next smartphone, users in a J.D. Power study said they were particularly interested in voice control and temperature sensors, among other things. A price spike would also affect their purchase, the survey showed.

J.D. Power again put Apple at the top of its customer satisfaction list this year, but not without questioning 13,237 smartphone customers about every little detail that matters to them.

When asked what they want from their next smartphone, “owners most often cite seamless voice control (36%); built-in sensors that can gauge temperature, lighting, noise and moods to customize settings to the environment (35%); and facial recognition and biometric security (28%),” according to the market research company.

More than one fifth of smartphone owners cited price as the main reason they chose their device, suggesting Apple may be in for a bad year if rumors about a price increase for the iPhone 6 turn out true.

However, the survey also showed that customers who tend to select a smartphone based on price generally exhibit lower levels of satisfaction and repurchase rates, rather than selections based on specific features, such as the OS. See the full J.D. Power report for more key findings.
