The LegoPi computer looks quite awesome!

We announced last week that the Ubuntu MATE operating system based on Ubuntu and built around the traditional MATE desktop environment was available for the Raspberry Pi 2 computer board.

Today, we can report that someone managed to build a desktop computer based on Raspberry Pi from nothing but Lego bricks. We have to admit that the PC looks quite awesome from the images posted on Imgur earlier today by the CoderGirl user.

Unfortunately, at the moment of writing this article, there are no details on what version of Raspberry Pi was used, nor the other hardware components, including the LCD panel, switches, etc.

All we know is that the version of Ubuntu MATE for Raspberry Pi 2 is 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) with the MATE 1.8.2 desktop environment, as this is the first and only edition ported to the Raspberry Pi 2 computer board by Rohith Madhavan, a member of the Ubuntu MATE community.

The Ubuntu MATE 15.04 image for Raspberry Pi 2 provides a fully functional computer operating system, and it is currently based on the standard ARM Hard Float (armhf) port of the Ubuntu Linux operating system. It can be downloaded for free from the Ubuntu MATE website.

Installation instructions and other juicy info about the Ubuntu MATE 15.04 image for the Raspberry Pi 2 computer board can be found on the port's page, along with details on how to enable hardware accelerated decoding, redirect audio output, resize the file system, and build the image yourselves from sources.

We will now let you enjoy the external photographs of the handmade Lego computer built by CoderGirl in the gallery below, but if you want to see the entire album, which contains 29 images, make sure that you head over to the Imgur website.
