Nekhelesh Ramananthan, a renowned Ubuntu Touch developer, has published some details about a developer contest with a brand new Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition smartphone as a prize.

As you might know, on June 1, Canonical gathered together all the Ubuntu insiders for a hangout to talk about the upcoming plans for the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system developed for Ubuntu phones, as well as to announce to them that Meizu, a Chinese consumer electronics company, will offer a brand-new Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition smartphone to all Ubuntu insiders.

Considering the fact that Ubuntu Touch developer Nekhelesh Ramananthan already has two Ubuntu-powered phones, the BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition and a Nexus 4 smartphone, he took the decision to donate the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition phone to an aspiring Ubuntu Touch developer who does not have a genuine Ubuntu phone device.

"I believe that instead of one developer having multiple devices like myself, I would rather prefer several developers owning at least one device running Ubuntu Touch to enable them to contribute to the Ubuntu Touch ecosystem," says Nekhelesh Ramananthan, an Ubuntu Touch developer. "So I contacted Canonical requesting permission to give away my Meizu device to a deserving community contributor to which they have agreed!"
