Now that the Fedora 22 Linux has been released, it is time to upgrade your old Fedora 21 installations. As such, we can announce today that the Fedora Project developers have prepared some neat instructions and an awesome tool that will help you get started.

The FedUp utility developed by Fedora Project is the easiest solution for those of you who want to upgrade their old Fedora Linux installations to the newly released version, which brings lots of impressive features and the latest Linux technologies.

Alright, so let's get started with the upgrade process from Fedora 21 to Fedora 22. First, make sure that you have all the latest updates installed and that you made a recent backup of your most important files.

To make sure that your Fedora 21 operating system is up to date, open the Terminal application and run the command below by pasting it from this article into the terminal window.

code
sudo dnf update
Hit the Enter key to start the update process. Then, enter your password if asked. Wait for the update process to finish, if updates are available, of course, and then install the FedUp utility with the following command.

Installing the FedUp utility and upgrading to Fedora 22

code
sudo dnf install fedup
Now you can start the upgrade process from Fedora 21 to Fedora 22 with a simple command. Once again, don't forget to enter your password if asked and hit the Enter key after pasting the command listed below.
code
sudo fedup --network 22
The smart FedUp tool will begin downloading all the necessary packages from the Fedora 22 software repositories, and prepare your system for the upgrade process. When the FedUp utility reaches step 3 and no errors are displayed, reboot your machine.

The last step is the most important one!

At the boot prompt, you will notice a new entry called "System Upgrade." Select it and press the Enter key on your keyboard. After this, FedUp will install all the necessary packages and upgrade your Fedora 21 installation to Fedora 22 automatically.

You don't have to do anything, just sit back and relax. The upgrade process will take some time, depending on your computer's specs. At the end of the upgrade process, you must reboot your system. That's it! Enjoy your new Fedora 22 installation!
