Comparison video uses purported iPhone 6 case to give us some perspective

A video published by Unbox Therapy shows how the iPhone 6 will look next to top-of-the-line devices sold by competitors Samsung and Google. The 7-minute clip was made using a case designed based on leaked schematics.

The video embedded below aims to show us how the iPhone 6 stacks up against competition, as well as its own smaller sibling, the iPhone 5s (which is the current-selling iPhone).

Put next to the iPhone 5s, the “i6” (as Unbox Therapy dubs it) looks significantly bigger but can still be used with one hand, according to the reviewer. Its size is comparable to that of the Nexus 5, but placed next to the Galaxy Note 3, the i6 appears considerably smaller. Nevertheless, it seems that Apple’s size is ideal for most users.

A remark made by Apple CEO Tim Cook during yesterday’s earnings call may provide the best indication as to why the iPhone has failed to blossom earlier.

“We care about every detail and it takes us a bit longer to do that. That's always been the case,” he said. “It means more to us to get it right than to be first.”

Slated to be unveiled in the second half of the year, the iPhone 6 will reportedly boast a 4.7-inch Retina display that actually increases the pixel density to a whopping 401 PPI (pixels per inch). A version featuring a 5.5-inch screen is also said to be in the works.

The bigger model would theoretically compete with the Galaxy Note series of phablets, though it remains unclear if Apple indeed wants to play in that space. This version of the phone is also said to be delayed because of manufacturing issues.

iPhone 6 is expected to use the next-generation A8 SoC (system-on-a-chip) featuring an uptick in processing power, RAM, and video memory, etc.

As far as the price is concerned, Apple may have some bad news for its loyal user base this year, as it appears that the manufacturing costs of the handset have prompted the company to consider a price increase of about $100 (€72).

The Cupertino giant is said to be in talks with the world’s leading wireless operators to apply the price increase to their subsidies, which would mean that the iPhone 6 could sell for $299 (€216). Such rumors are unfounded, though, and the move is actually quite unlikely.
