Designer creates ultra-realistic mockups of the notebook

The 12-inch MacBook Air has moved from rumor to nearly-confirmed this week, after sources within Apple leaked key design details that made their way to the tech blogosphere. An artist rendition gave us a first glimpse at the system, but designer Martin Hajek wasn’t happy with those images.

Renowned for his ultra-realistic mockups of rumored Apple products, the Dutch designer went to work on some old MacBook Air 3D models and adjusted them based on the aforementioned leaks. The results can be seen in the gallery below.

Three different flavors

Hajek made Silver, Dark Gray, and Gold versions of the system. While the first two are very likely to happen, the latter isn’t. The device is breathtaking from every angle!

The Dutch artist went as far as to envision the systems on Apple Store furniture, allowing anyone to imagine this sitting on their desk, or their lap. A sense of scale is given in pictures where the computer is shown from afar, with people and other objects in the background. A closeup of the USB Type-C port is offered, along with the speaker array.

Potential redesign across the board

The entire MacBook lineup could see a redesign heralded by this new 12-inch model. While the Pro models will undoubtedly remain much thicker than the rest of the group, the Air family might receive the new design across all screen sizes, including the 11-inch and 13-inch models.

On the other hand, the 12-incher might also mark the death of the 11-inch MacBook Air, which is a tad too small for most people. There’s still no word on the pixel-density in the new MacBook Air, but everyone is keeping their fingers crossed for Retina-grade quality.
