Apple has started fitting iPhone screens in-store to save cash that would otherwise go wasted on replacement iPhones. A picture is now making the rounds showing the machine used by Geniuses to put the finishing touches.

After the iPhone gets repaired, 512Pixels reports that Apple techies are required to use the machine pictured above to calibrate the new display.

According to Stephen Hackett, “Apple Stores have been instructed that the iPhone is the ‘top priority’ for the Genius Bar, and this new repair — and crazy machine — surely reflects that.”

Stephen also heard that many stores now have Geniuses who sometimes make it their whole job to tinker with iPhones, adding that “Apple is pouring resources in to in-store iPhone repairs.”

He even cites one employee as saying, “We’re bringing China to the Genius Room.”
