On paper, it really doesn't, but there may be more hidden in synthetic benchmarks

Now that Apple has unveiled its iPhone smartphones for the next 12 months or so, it's time for us to see how they're standing against the competition.

And what better device to compare the iPhone 6 with than Apple's main enemy phablet, the Galaxy Note 4. We did not want to choose the standard iPhone 6 model for this comparison, given the much lower specs, but the Plus version seems fit to take on Samsung's flagship smartphone.

There's no doubt about it, the fact that Apple can make its own hardware components in-house is a great deal, but that also makes it harder for us to compare with more common hardware that other handset manufacturers are using inside their products.

Let's take Apple's new A8 processor that features a 64-bit architecture for that matter. Well, except for the fact that it's much better than the one included in the iPhone 5s, we know nothing about it.

We expect the iPhone 6 Plus to come equipped with a 2GHz dual-core A8 processor, which might be on par with Galaxy Note 4's 2.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor or even the Exynos 5433 octa-core CPU.

Don't think iPhone 6 Plus's processor is a simple dual-core CPU from 5-6 years ago. Given the modern architecture, the A8 chipset may be as fast as Qualcomm's latest system-on-chip, but that remains to be seen when the first synthetic benchmarks come in.

Moving on to the display, the iPhone 6 Plus sports a 5.5-inch Retina HD display that supports 401ppi (pixel per inch), shatter proof glass and oleophobic coating. The screen supports full HD (1080p) resolution and 16 million colors.

On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 boasts a slightly larger 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display that supports QHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

It remains to be seen how well the iPhone 6 Plus will perform in benchmarks

On the inside, the iPhone 6 Plus is likely to pack 2GB of RAM, but this has yet to be confirmed. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory.

As expected, the iPhone 6 Plus lacks microSD card slot, while Galaxy Note 4 allows users to expand storage up to 128GB.

Next in line, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 features a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, whereas the iPhone 6 packs only a 8-megapixel camera, similar to the one included in the iPhone 5s but with different module and more advanced features. However, Galaxy Note 4 can record 4K video, while the iPhone 6's camera is stuck on 1080p videos at 60fps.

In the connectivity front, Galaxy Note 4 seems to offer support for LTE Cat6 (300Mbps), while the iPhone 6 includes LTE Cat4 (150Mbps). The former also packs Bluetooth 4.1, but the latter only features support for Bluetooth 4.0.

When it comes to battery, things are undecided as Apple has yet to confirm what battery the iPhone 6 Plus is powered by. Previous rumors claim that the iPhone 6 drains energy from a 2915 mAh battery, while Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is equipped with a 3220 mAh battery.

So there you have it. It remains to be seen which of these two flagship smartphones performs better in real life. If you could choose one of the these beasts, which one would appeal to you more?
