Business as usual

The PC platform has been doomed time and time again by a lot of analysts and/or developers over the past few years. From the fact that it would be consumed by piracy to users eventually realizing the advantages of consoles, the PC was seemingly destined to be forgotten by gamers.

But that's not true, as a lot of quality titles are still going strong on the old platform, with online ones being the most successful, thanks to the many gamers who prefer to spend their time on the Internet. As the NPD group revealed its hardware and software charts last week, it also unveiled the retail sales charts for the PC over the month of April.

Sadly, it's more or less business as usual for the biggest companies in the PC segment, Blizzard and Electronic Arts, which dominate it through World of Warcraft and Sims 2, respectively. The number four spot is occupied by Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor, having beaten other titles like Left 4 Dead or Demigod, which are going strong in sales.

Notable presences are the Diablo Battle Chest edition, showing that players want to get ready for whenever Diablo III will arrive, StarCraft Battle Chest, as the impending release of StarCraft II offers plenty of reasons to get reacquainted with the units in the famous RTS series. Dawn of War II is still going strong as is Fallout 3, achieving a respectable 18 spot, even though it was released a long time ago.

1. World Of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King 2. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe 3. World Of Warcraft: Battle Chest 4. Company Of Heroes: Tales Of Valour 5. Empire: Total War 6. World Of Warcraft 7. Left 4 Dead 8. DemiGod 9. Diablo Battle Chest 10. The Sims 2 Apartment Life 11. Spore 12. Warcraft III Battle Chest 13. Starcraft: Battle Chest 14. World Of Warcraft: Burning Crusade 15. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War II 16. Sim City Box 17. Bejeweled Twist 18. Fallout 3 19. The Sims 2 Pets 20. Hidden & Dangerous 2

Overall, things are going great for the PC platform, and gamers are still buying plenty of titles for it.
