14 DAY TRIAL // The end of the year is nearly upon us and, as a lot of gaming websites are showcasing their tops and charts with the games of 2008, the famous review website Metacritic has decided to release its own Top Ten, according to all of the review scores given by specialty websites to the games that have appeared this year.
Here are the Top Ten Best Games of 2008, with their aggregated scores beside them:
1. Grand Theft Auto IV (98 — 360, 98 — PS3) 2. LittleBigPlanet (95 — PS3) 3. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (94 — PS3) 4. BioShock (94 — PS3) and Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 (94 — PS2) 5. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (93 — Wii) and Gears of War 2 (93 — 360) 6. Chrono Trigger (93 — DS) and Braid (93 — 360) 7. World of Goo (94 — Wii, 91 — PC / AVERAGE: 92.5) 8. Fallout 3 (93 — 360, 92 — PS3, 92 — PC / AVERAGE: 92) and Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Armor (92 — PC) 9. Rock Band 2 (92 — 360, 91 — PS3 / AVERAGE: 91.5) 10. God of War: Chains of Olympus (91 — PSP) and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (91 — PC)
While the console editions for Grand Theft Auto IV are no surprise here, as even our own website awarded Rockstar's open-world sandbox game a 9.5/10 score, there are a few surprises in this top. It's really nice to see that even a year after the launch of the Xbox 360 and PC versions, BioShock's PS3 edition is still praised by a lot of critics. The number 6 entries are also quite interesting, as the independently developed Braid is on equal grounds with the handheld Chrono Trigger title. Also, another pretty surprising portable game, God of War: Chains of Olympus shows that Kratos can flex his muscles even on the PlayStation Portable.
But, as not all of the titles launched in 2008 were top notch, Metacritic also made a top of the worst games that have appeared this year.

Toy Shop (31 — DS) and Rapala Fishing Freanzy 2009 (31 — PS2) 8. Falling Stars (32 — PS2), Best of Tests DS (32 — PS2), Iron Man (32 — PC) and Code of Honor 2: Conspiracy Island (32 — PC) 9. Target: Terror (33 — Wii) and The Incredible Hulk (33 — PC) 10. Jackass: The Game (34 — PC) and King of Clubs (34 — Wii)
There aren't a lot of things that can be said about these titles, as most of them are not so well known. While projects based on movies, like Jumper or George of the Jungle or even Iron Man, weren't really expected to deliver as games, nobody thought that they would receive such a low score.
