Capcom is one of the biggest game developers and publishers in Japan as it is the owner of quite a lot of big selling franchises. From Resident Evil to Street Fighter or Mega Man, the company is present on all sorts of platforms, and, in some cases, is backing up a single device with its titles, like in the case of the PlayStation Portable, which is dependent on the company's Monster Hunter series.

Now, after posting its financial results, Capcom has released an updated list of its best-selling franchises, which managed to move over 1 million units across the world. In the brackets you will find the number of iterations each franchise has had, which
comprises every SKU released for every platform, meaning that titles that appeared on multiple devices have been counted for each platform.

Resident Evil - 40 million (56)
Mega Man - 28 million (124)
Street Fighter - 27 million (62)
Devil May Cry - 10 million (11)
Monster Hunter - 8.5 million (11)
Onimusha - 7.8 million (12)
Dino Crisis - 4.4 million (13)
Ghosts 'N Goblins - 4.4 million (16)
Final Fight - 3.2 million (10)
Ace Attorney - 3.2 million (12)
Breath of Fire - 3 million (15)
Lost Planet - 2.7 million (7)
Commando - 1.2 million (2)
1942 - 1.2 million (3)
Sengoku BASARA - 1.2 million (10)

It was pretty much obvious that Capcom's action survival franchise, Resident Evil, would dominate this chart as, ever since the 1990s when it was launched, it has gained one of the biggest fan bases for a video game. Mega Man also shows that having a lot of versions released for its titles can generate a big amount of sales. Fighting games are also present as Street Fighter continues to sell a lot of units, especially since the latest iteration, SF IV, is going strong on the consoles and is also gearing up for a PC release this summer.

All in all, Capcom is doing great and will continue to develop almost all of these great franchises for future profit.
