Here's Mozilla's Latest Innovation: Penelope!

- Eudora is revamped by Mozilla

By: Bogdan Popa, Security and Search Engines Editor

Eudora was one of the top email clients that ever existed but since the giant companies started getting involved into the competition it was abandoned by most of the consumers. At this time, most of the Internet users are interested in Thunderbird or the default Microsoft Windows email client, Outlook. But most of the users are now using a web-based email technology such as Gmail or Yahoo Mail which provide excellent
functionality and unlimited storage size through a freeware account. However, the folks from Mozilla, the company that created Firefox, revamped Eudora and today, they released the first version that is available for download here.

Basically, Eudora received a lot of new goodies from Thunderbird, the email client first created by Mozilla. In fact, it is actually a Mozilla Thunderbird with the interface of Eudora and some new functions. At this time, the product is available for Windows and Mac but a Linux version was not confirmed yet.

"Eudora is a mail and news application based on the open source Thunderbird client from Mozilla. It's not our intention to compete with Thunderbird; rather, we want to complement it", the official page of the product reads.

"We are committed to both preserving the Eudora user experience and to maintaining maximum compatibility, for both developers and users, with Thunderbird. It is our goal to build a single development community around Thunderbird and Eudora, so that both mailers advance faster than they previously have."

Mozilla recently announced that the company will abandon the development of Thunderbird in order to remain focused on its famous web-browser, Firefox. However, it seems like the software firm will power even one more technology as Eudora was already adopted by numerous Internet users and Mozilla fans. Until a new version of the email client is released, you can test the first version available on the download link mentioned above.
