Fans know him from “The Tudors” and from the upcoming Superman film “Man of Steel,” where he's to don the silly red underpants and superhero cape. Henry Cavill has ended his engagement and is now single, it has emerged.

Talented, handsome and incredibly popular, Henry will most likely be getting all the female attention now, Us Weekly notes.

For the past 3 years, the actor had been in a relationship with Ellen Whitaker, to whom he proposed on his birthday.

They are now going their separate ways, having ended their engagement roughly 3 months ago, the celebrity publication writes.

Admittedly, there was no third party involved in the decision, as neither was any hard feeling about it.

“There was no fallout. They just both agreed it wasn’t working. They broke up three months ago,” a source tells the publication.

The two remain friends.

As noted above, Cavill will be seen next in Zack Snyder's “Man of Steel,” which opens in theaters in the summer of 2013 but is already getting fans hyped because of the kind of talent involved in it.

One man who won't be a part of it though he desperately wanted it is Joe Manganiello, who recently revealed he was considered for Superman before Cavill, but was eliminated from the competition because his schedule on “True Blood” would have made shooting very difficult.

As Manganiello admitted, he's still sore for losing out to Henry but he's yet to lose hope about one day getting to play a superhero.

“At the end of the day, it was True Blood’s schedule that kept me from doing it. There’s just no human way possible I could be in two places at once when I’m contracted to be on True Blood,” he explained.

Before he was replaced by Cavill, Manganiello said, he even talked to Snyder about the possibility of bringing a fresh angle on the character and the well-known story, which only added to his frustration when he was dropped from the gig.
