When Henry Cavill was cast as Superman in Zack Snyder's reboot “Man of Steel,” many were quick to say he wasn't up for the part. They've probably reconsidered now, after seeing his incredibly ripped body on the set of the film.

Cavill, known before this for his role in “The Tudors” and who will appear next in “Immortals,” is featured in the latest issue of Men's Health magazine where he talks about, what else, his body.

There's no denying that he underwent a drastic transformation for the part, putting a lot of time and effort into working out so that he had a body worthy of the superhero he gets to portray on the big screen.

The reason why he was so determined to get said body, Henry tells the magazine, was because he didn't want producers to use studio trickery to make him appear more toned, bigger, more muscular.

Whereas many other actors would be (and are) OK with post-production CGI or clever makeup and lighting to get a more ripped body, Henry chose the hard way to get it: by working out.

“I had a big sense of pride. I was like, ‘No shading. I don’t want you to draw abs on me. I don’t want you to put dirt in the right places. I just want to do it myself. I want to have the body’,” Henry says of what he told producers.

“You get the fear every morning, ‘Do I look good enough?’ And of course you do, but in your own head, you never look good enough,” he adds.

“I think the best thing I learned was that I can do it. A lot of people think they probably can’t, until they actually do. When I saw pictures I would say ‘Is that me?’ You don’t quite realize. It taught me that anything is possible,” Cavill further says of getting his enviable body.

Then again, it's not like he didn't have fun with it, he continues. He chose not to see the workouts as a chore and, in almost no time, he started enjoying them.

Aside from teaching him that he can do whatever he sets his mind to, the physical preparation for the Superman role also taught him another, more important thing: being fit and keeping active has plenty of advantages.

“It’s a great feeling to be in shape and strong. I don’t mean that in an arrogant way at all. But you go to the gym and train hard every day and you learn how far you can push yourself. That becomes rewarding in itself,” Cavill says.
