The US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) wants to improve coordination between Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) and reduce delays when it comes to reacting to cyber security incidents.

NIST is seeking guidance on the topic so it has issued a Request for Information.

Organizing a CSIRT, detecting attacks, preventing damage, reporting breaches, repairing systems and restarting operations are topics that are covered in NIST’s existing guide.

However, the organization wants to publish a new guide, “Computer Security Incident Coordination.” The new publication will contain procedures, methodologies, and processes that will cut response time and limit information loss in situations in which several organizations are involved.

Comments must be sent to [email protected] by July 29, 2013. Make sure to include your name and your company’s name. Also, cite “Computer Security Incident Coordination” in all the emails you send.

All the comments submitted until July 29 will be published at csc.nist.gov.
