A video depicting 10 minutes of in-game footage from the upcoming Hellraid has surfaced on the Internet, also offering some interesting commentary from one of the fantasy hack-and-slash title's developers.

"The concept of Hellraid is to join the idea of first-person immersive and brutal melee combat mixed with magic, and put it into a game that is with hack and slash DNA," Game Producer Marcin Kruczkiewicz told Eurogamer.

"And all of that we want to be in a dark fantasy setting, so a classic struggle between the forces of evil and the forces of good, and we stick to this concept very rigorously, so there will be demons, different hordes of enemies, undead skeletons et cetera," he explained.

Former Dead Island developer Techland is currently pretty busy, working on both a game similar to Dead Island, titled Dying Light, and showing a lot of potential so far, and on the first-person hack-fest that is Hellraid.

Gamers will be able to enjoy Hellraid's story-driven campaign both in single player and in a cooperative multiplayer mode that will support up to four players at a time.

The video shows a bit of the level design and offers an overall idea regarding the game's visual fidelity, but the most interesting aspect by far is the melange of melee action combat and spell slinging.

"The melee and combat in the first person perspective is our main goal. We really put a lot of effort into creating an emotional, immersive and realistic feeling for the fight," Kruckzkiewicz said.

The team put together a system where players can use a wide variety of weapons, from longswords, axes and maces to one-handed variants that can be used with a shield, but the greatest thing is mixing several fighting styles with numerous magic-based abilities.

The game also features a level-up system that allows players to customize their experience and gain access to new and improved skills in order to tackle the challenges of Hellraid in their preferred manner.

Fans of dismemberment will no doubt be pleased to find out that the game's spells are also able to cut enemy limbs from their bodies, and severing heads and legs is not restricted to melee weapons.

The game also includes an arena mode where players can band together and try to survive against increasingly difficult waves of enemies.

Hellraid is currently scheduled to come out sometime during 2015, headed for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms. The game is also going to land on Steam Early Access later this fall, for testing purposes, and to allow impatient gamers to experience the great-looking action faster.
