14 DAY TRIAL // Ninja Theory is currently working on Hellblade, a weird action-adventure video game that will be a bite-sized AAA experience.
The developer will use the experience gathered over the years, developing popular titles like Heavenly Sword and DmC: Devil May Cry, in creating its upcoming title, which will feature ninja-like combat using an in-depth, engaging system.
The game will be a story-driven experience, influenced by Celtic folklore, following the protagonist's journey through the underworld, taking on various mythological beasts and undead enemies.
One of the center pieces of the game will be the high production value of the entire project, and music is one of the key areas of creating an immersive experience for players.
The studio published a video talking about the process behind the creation of the game's soundtrack, showing the artist in charge talking about his approach.
The game's music needs to be personal
"Music is such a powerful tool for driving emotion, more so than art, dialogue or plot. So it makes sense that it should be part of the creative process from the start. Like every other aspect of the game we wanted to find a style that felt interesting and different in Hellblade."
"The style of music says a lot about your game. A big orchestral score is probably the default choice for a lot of games and movies. It suggests a particular kind of product: the big Hollywood blockbuster experience. That is not what Hellblade is about," the post on the PlayStation blog states.
Instead of creating a somewhat generic, pompous soundtrack, the development team will work closely with the composer in order to make sure that the soundtrack captures the essence of protagonist Senua's journey.
In any case, the video is worth a watch, as it casts an inquisitive glance into the process that makes games such a magical experience.
Hellblade is scheduled to land on the PlayStation 4 and PC platforms, sometime later this year.
