According to the latest news on the Web, Helio is getting ready to launch the Ocean 2, also known as the OZ2. The handset has been on the news for more than a year now, but Helio, the “virtual” wireless carrier acquired by Virgin Mobile USA (VM), has delayed the release of Ocean 2 quite a few times already.
Helio Ocean 2 is expected to finally hit the market this quarter, and some voices even say that we might see the device launched as early as February on Virgin Mobile, since it also owns Helio. As many of you might already remember, OZ2 was announced to have passed through the FCC’s testing labs about ten months ago, yet no specific details on its launch date have been disclosed since then, although VM did confirm in September that the device would most likely be released in 2009.
The Helio Ocean 2 is reported to come with a 3-megapixel camera that would sport 30 fps video recording, 1 GB of internal storage memory, microSDHC card slot for further memory expansion, touch-sensitive directional pad, Flash support, and PC sync support. Most of these features have been already seen on the first Helio Ocean handset, except for the integrated Flash support.
The navigational touchpad that can already be seen on Samsung Omnia is one feature of the handset meant to appeal to users. In addition to that, the Helio Ocean 2 should sport a full QWERTY and an alphanumeric keyboard, to which we can add a QVGA display, 3G connectivity and a full HTML browser.
Although the Helio Ocean 2 is getting close to being launched on the market, no info on the price tag it will come with has been unveiled at the moment. We hope that more details will be available as the launch date nears even more, so stay tuned.
