Rumors say that Helio, the mobile virtual network operator we all learned to love or hate (the hating part is the contribution of the guys with a little more love for newer handsets than for the ones with minimalist design and with a long record of showing up on other carriers' networks), is going to launch sometime during this spring the SPH-A303 cellphone manufactured by
Samsung.
For the ones of you which don't know anything about this device, I will give it a short description so you know why I'm so mad at Helio. This phone is as close to the LG Chocolate as any other handset has ever gotten! It even features the front touch sensitive keys and the same black glossy color. Other than that and the fact that Helio brings its customers the clone of a
handset
other people had been carrying around in their pockets for some time, everything is cool about the A303.
This is a good looking slider handset and, as the rumor source tells us, it is very possible to get full multimedia features for the absolute enjoyment of all fashion fans with a Helio contract in their hand.
The Samsung A303 has 140 MB of built-in memory, the Helio user interface everyone knows, a quite disappointing 1.3 megapixel digital camera (does anybody remember about Helio saying something of a minimum 2 megapixel camera on their future to be launched
cellphones?), EVDO broadband (which is a pretty useful think in my opinion if one thinks about the unlimited data plans available for this MVNO's customers) and an LG Chocolate look-a-like design.
Some people say this will probably be quite an adversary for the Chocolate but I think it is a little too late for that. LG's handset has already made a name for itself and if the A303 would have had a chance to win this battle, the best time to launch would have been back in 2006 when Samsung's device would have at least had a small chance of getting some buyers on its side.
Now things are already settled down and the only individuals that will give it a thought will be the ones not caring about high-tech features and things like that. The people that would pay the money to take it home are the ones that care more about the design of the device and of how will the phone make their mobile experience a little more "beautiful", so to say. They are the same guys that would want a
Japanese cellphone not because it has all the latest data and mobile technologies crammed inside its case but because it is the sexiest piece of mobile hardware they ever laid their eyes on.
And that's about everything one can say about the future to be launched Helio cellphone. If it will indeed be launched, that remains to be seen. Until this rumor will get to be officially confirmed by the American MVNO, check back with us because will keep you posted in case anything new about this subject arrives on our door step.
