A text messaging mean machine

Two days ago, we caught the track of some rumors saying the American MVNO Helio is going to launch on its network the Samsung A303 slider cellphone, a mobile phone with a very minimalist overall look.

Today, FCC has unveiled for us the next big thing coming to Helio, the Pantech PN810 messenger handset. This handset sports the same egg shape we saw during November 2006 when the FIC Neo1973 Linux flavored mobile phone was launched.

Although making you have the constant feel you've seen it somewhere, the similarities stop here because the PN810 is not a candy bar but a double slider cellphone.

This means the phone is actually built in three different layers, the first one featuring the 260k colors TFT LCD display, the one that slides down offering access to a normal numeric keypad and the last one, the side-sliding panel, reveals a full featured QWERTY keyboard for all the text messaging maniacs to enjoy.

The specifications details disclosed by the FCC are very scarce at the moment so we only know about it having an EV-DO radio, Bluetooth connectivity which will hopefully have a stereo A2DP profile and a 2,1 megapixel digital camera with built-in flash.

Of course, if you are a Helio subscriber, you'll also get access to their media service (lots of them being exclusively available on Helio) like HOT (Helio On Top) which is a news and information service, MySpace interface, customized Yahoo services and many others.

This handset's appearance on FCC with the Helio brand on its forehead gives us a hint of it getting a very soon launch on this carrier's network so have patience because probably, in a very short time, you'll be able to get your hands on it.
