A charter helicopter made an emergency landing in the Hudson River in New York on Sunday after the pilot reportedly heard a “big bang.”

As I wrote yesterday, the pilot and four Swedish passengers aboard were rescued and they are now safe and sound.

The mechanical malfunction brought the aircraft down in 20 seconds since 23-year-old pilot Michael Campbell heard the blast.

“I first had to confirm my biggest fear — that the engine was out. I just needed to stay calm — because if I panicked, I knew it wouldn’t be a very good ending,” he describes.

He alerted La Guardia Airport about the malfunction and landed the Bell 206 near the 79th Street Boat Basin. According to the New York Post, the tourists mentioned that they never even got wet.
