Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, once tabloid fixtures that could command thousands of dollars for a single appearance, are barely making ends meet these days. In a new interview with InTouch magazine, Heidi muses on their fall from grace and, most importantly, on how they squandered away their fortune.

Heidi and Spencer shot to fame on “The Hills” and they were successful in turning that into a lucrative business which saw them sell every detail of their personal life to the tabloids. However, in less than 3 years’ time, they had outstayed their welcome and burned through the impressive fortune they had made.

The pneumatic blonde estimates that they spent about $10 million (€7.3 million) in just 3 years, and explains that this was only to be expected since they were completely reckless with their money.

“We were immature and we got caught up. Every time we’d go out to eat, we’d order $4,000 [€2,928] bottles of wine. Heidi was going to the mall and dropping $20,000 to $30,000 [€14,645 to €21,963] a day. We thought we were Jay Z and Beyonce,” Pratt chimes in.

“Now I can spend like $100 [€73.2] at Victoria’s Secret. I feel like a different person,” Heidi adds.

Those who kept an eye on Heidi’s career probably remember that she also tried to launch herself as a pop artist, paying for an entire album out of her own money. At the end of the day, the album barely registered with fans and she and Spencer were $1 million (€732,118) poorer.

She also spent a lot of money on plastic surgery, designer clothes and bags, the works. Meanwhile, Spencer was dishing serious dough on things like cars, guns, and crystals.

These days, Heidi regrets more than just being this financially unwise, sounding sorry for ever being on the show that helped put her on the map, “The Hills.”

“I didn’t realize people would only know me as that character. It was just a persona I played up to make a paycheck. [It was] a great experience [but it] took a toll on my soul. I’m thankful not to have fake fights anymore!” she says.

Spencer and Heidi will be featured on a special on E!, “After Shock,” on December 9.
