Offering a glimpse into the life of the Speidi couple

Not long ago, only days before the release of her debut music album, “Superficial,” Heidi Montag, half of the Speidi couple, which also includes Spencer Pratt, was saying she planned to reinvent pop music and outsell even Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Her album predictably tanked but, as People magazine can confirm, that’s not stopping Heidi from trying to promote her music.

Case in point: she’s just released a video for the title single. Since the song itself aims to be a not so veiled shot at the tabloid media, which keeps labeling Heidi without as much as bothering to get to know the real her, the video had to be something along the same lines. It includes footage taken throughout the years, showing Heidi surrounded by paparazzi, attending photo calls and even as she’s getting plastic surgery on her face under anesthesia.

For those who might have problems getting the message of the song, the lyrics play out across the screen in caps, especially in the chorus part. Though the video tries to imply that both Heidi and Spencer are living large, enjoying the kind of benefits us mortals can only dream of, including wearing diamonds at breakfast and being constantly in the spotlight, one can’t but shake off a certain feeling that it’s cheaply done. Several celebrity and music-oriented publications point out that the editing is unprofessional at best, while the repetition of some scenes (one of which appears 3 or 4 times) does nothing in terms of convincing the audiences that this is, indeed, Heidi Montag, the ultimate pop diva of our times.

“This is real footage we’ve collected over the years. I’m a reality star and I wanted to bring that into my music video. Someone like Lady Gaga has to fake paparazzi for her video and create that whole world but that’s the real life I live. That’s my reality,” Montag tells People of how she came up with the concept for the video. Shortly after “Superficial” the album became available, she was saying that she aimed to become the best in every field of showbiz, though she did not say how she planned on getting there.

“I want to make the new 2010 version of a pop star. I want to become a galaxy star. The sky is the limit. I want to be a mogul, music, acting, producing, writing. I want to wear every hat in every business!” Heidi proclaimed back then. The video for “Superficial” is supposedly a step into that direction, that of conquering the world. Watch and judge for yourselves if she stands any chance. *Please note that some discretion is advised.
