Heidi Montag, often dubbed the fakest celebrity in showbiz, a title she shares with longtime love and current husband Spencer Pratt, performed at the Miss Universe pageant on Sunday, as we also informed you yesterday. Far from representing for her the big break she’d been waiting for for years, the performance was trashed by critics and the media, as the New York Daily News points out.

The similarity with one of Britney Spears’ older performances only made things worse, the publication points out, leading to the simple conclusion that, “Sorry, Heidi Montag, you’re no Britney Spears.” The fact that Montag had, just days before the pageant, told the media that Spears was her idol and that she aspired to be just as big as her musically also came to bite her in the you-know-what, making copycat and phony labels stick to her performance even better.

The NY Daily News is just one of the many US media outlets tacking now part in the Heidi backlash and urging her to quit it with her poor attempts at making music. “Heidi Montag’s first ‘live’ performance of her single, ‘Body Language,’ on Sunday’s Miss Universe competition was nothing short of embarrassing and entertaining. Though the ‘Hills’ star assured the show’s host Billy Bush on Twitter that her performance would ‘be as live as can be,’ Montag took a page straight out of Spear’s lip-synching routines and delivered a sorry show.” the publication mentioned above writes.

Others are even more blunt than this, calling her rendering of her single “like a trainwreck” and saying the least they expected of her was to be able to dance. Even some of the dancers sharing the same stage with her seemed to be embarrassed by her awkward moves and terrible lip-synching skills, some say in gossip mags and on celebrity blogs. At least one can always count on Britney Spears to deliver an awesome performance in terms of choreography, which is one of the many reasons why critics often overlook her obstinacy at not singing live.

It’s here that she might want to start emulating Spears, critics say. However, Montag seems convinced she can replace the Princess of Pop any given day. “I grew up watching Britney Spears. That’s someone I inspire to be, you know, like, career wise. I think the world is ready for the next pop star and I’m ready to be the next pop galaxy, so here we go.” Montag was telling Access Hollywood before the performance at the pageant.
