Heidi Montag Hires Divorce Attorney, Breakup Is Real

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt were, until not long ago, one of the mediated couples in showbiz – not so much for the things they did, but rather because they specifically set out to get headlines regardless of what they had to do for it. A short while ago, Heidi’s publicist confirmed that she’d decided to separate from Spencer in what was considered yet another publicity stunt to cash in on their fame without actually doing something.

As TMZ puts it, things may actually be as bad as they say they are for the once lovey-dovey couple, since Heidi has hired a divorce attorney. This not only confirms that she’s determined to have her name freed of any association with Spencer’s, but also that the entire breakup / legal separation story was the real deal from the start, and not something that they did for the sake of publicity. Still, whether Montag actually plans to file for divorce any time soon is yet to be determined.

“Knock us over with a feather. TMZ has learned... Heidi Montag is so serious about ending her marriage to Spencer Pratt, she’s already lawyered up and she has a game plan. We’ve learned Heidi has picked Jodeane Farrell to handle her divorce and this lawyer isn’t playing games... she’s already taking steps to get the quickest divorce possible in California. Farrell – who has practiced as a family law specialist for 24 years and currently handles divorce mediations – will be setting up a meeting with Heidi and Spencer in approximately two weeks,” TMZ reports.

“We’re told both Heidi and Spencer want the divorce mediated – meaning the two will try and hash out a property settlement privately, wait the six months required by California law, and end their marriage. Heidi wants Farrell to be the mediator, provided Spencer is down with it. Farrell has close family ties with the Montag family, but she tells TMZ she doesn’t think there will be a problem in mediating the deal,” the same report further mentions.

Farrell is already working on getting Heidi and Spencer in the same room, together with their accountant, so that they can talk over details of their joint assets and how they plan on splitting them. According to the attorney, things are actually proceeding in a very pleasant manner: Spencer and Heidi are on “very amicable” terms and plan on remaining that way, she says for the same media outlet.
