Heidi Montag Files for Divorce from Spencer Pratt

Though many believed there was absolutely no truth to Heidi Montag’s announcement that she was seeking a legal separation from her husband Spencer Pratt, it turns out that it was no publicity stunt. The former “Hills” reality star has just filed the papers for divorce from Spencer, citing irreconcilable differences as the cause of the split, People magazine reports.

Because they have quite a reputation for always seeking media attention, not few were those who said that the Heidi – Spencer breakup was only a publicity stunt to promote whatever project they might be working on right now, with plans for an immediate release. While Heidi refused to comment on the state of her marriage, Spencer did make a statement or two to the media, saying the decision to call it quits had come from him, because he wanted to pursue a career in the spotlight, whereas she didn’t, as we also informed you a while back.

“Skeptics, take notice: This breakup is for real. Almost two months after Heidi Montag went to court seeking legal separation from husband Spencer Pratt, the reality starlet filed for divorce. Montag, 23, cites the usual irreconcilable differences in the divorce petition filed in Santa Monica, Calif., Superior Court. ‘Heidi has amended her petition for separation and today has filed a petition for dissolution of marriage from Spencer Pratt,’ Montag’s lawyer Jodeane Farrell tells People. ‘The couple has agreed they would like their divorce to be finalized in a timely manner in an out of court settlement. Both parties are amicable with each other and over the possibility of finalizing their divorce’,” the magazine writes.

Heidi and Spencer were married for a little over a year. Though both insist they still have nothing but love for each other, word on the street has it that Pratt coerced Heidi into getting massive plastic surgery (a complete makeover, as the entire world must know by now) to boost their profile in the media. Heidi could never forgive him for that, which led to their marriage crumbling apart. On the other hand, there are those rumors that say that they never broke up in the first place and that all this is just another PR stunt. In fact, just yesterday, one such report claimed that they were not only still together, but also living under the same roof.

“I saw Spencer, he seems really normal. He actually showed us his new project he’s working on. He showed us a clip of the movie. I thought it was really funny. I think it’s about a lifeguard that’s trying to get girls. And the lifeguard is kinda of like a douche-bag type of guy, not too cool. […] I’m actually not sure what’s going on. [Heidi] didn’t really go into details about anything but the way she was acting it just seemed like she was really happy and free and just living life. She’s telling us how she’s gardening a lot and writing music and she seems to be really happy,” a friend of Heidi’s was saying for Radar, as we also reported.
