Heavy Rain, the PlayStation 3 exclusive title published by Sony and developed by Quantic Dream, has managed to jump to the top of the United Kingdom videogame chart in its first week on sales, showing that players have an interest in a highly cinematic, narrative-based gaming experience.

Heavy Rain tells the story of a cast of characters that are somehow linked with the Origami Killer, a serial murderer with a strange behavior. Heavy Rain is quite a complex experience, relying on button presses to bring the player closer to the character they are controlling while also offering a wide variety of paths through the game depending on the choices made.

Despite the assault of Heavy Rain and some pretty underwhelming reviews, Aliens vs. Predator from developer Rebellion and publisher SEGA managed to only slide one place to second spot, proving that old fashioned Marine-based scares still have an audience. Just Dance, the casual Nintendo Wii title offered by Ubisoft, finally slipped from second place to third.

Wii Fit Plus is making a comeback, jumping up five places from number nine to four and succeeding in overtaking Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, from Infinity Ward and Activision, which also went up one place from six to five.

Wii Sports Resort from Nintendo sits at number six, one place up over the previous seven-day period, followed by another Nintendo title, New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii. Another new entry slips in at number eight, with SEGA putting out Sonic & SEGA All Star Racing, which builds on the formula that made Mario Kart so successful.

BioShock 2, from 2K Games, a one time holder of the first place, halted its seven spot slide at number nine, while FIFA 10 from EA Sports closes down the top ten. Napoleon: Total War, from The Creative Assembly and SEGA, debuted at number twelve.
