Quantic Dream's David Cage, the creator of recent PlayStation 3 exclusive Heavy Rain, talked about the impact of the interactive drama, and how, in his mind, it has opened up the gaming medium for more different and mature experiences.

Heavy Rain was a departure from regular game genres, as it was classified more as an interactive drama, which told a deep, albeit flawed in some cases, story, filled with mature ideas like those of parenthood and sacrifice.

While many "hardcore" gamers dismissed the title at first, Heavy Rain went on to sell over 1 million units in less than two months, showcasing the power of the uniqueness.

Now, Cage, speaking with PSM3 (via CVG) has thanked those that supported the PlayStation 3 title.

"I would like to add a message for all the people who supported us and bought Heavy Rain, and to all my colleagues in the industry who voted to give awards to Heavy Rain. I would sincerely like to thank everybody for their trust and support, and for having made Heavy Rain a real success."

Cage went on, saying that the title is now leading the way for more mature games in the industry.

"This game granted credibility and respect for the ideas that we believe in, and I am convinced that Heavy Rain has and will open doors to others to approach interactivity in different and more mature ways."

"I always said that the success or the failure of the game would send a strong message to the industry. This is now done. Thank you to all the people who believed in us and gave Heavy Rain a chance."

As for the future, Cage said that the whole team at Quantic Dream was working on a brand new project, which, once again, would surprise quite a lot of people.

"We are working hard to invent the next revolution after Heavy Rain, and to surprise all the people who believe in our vision and to convince the others that games can become a more meaningful medium."

Heavy Rain was recently re-released for the PlayStation 3 complete with support for the PlayStation Move motion detection peripheral.
