Heavy Rain creator David Cage has confessed that he wants to make a brand new title which would focus on the war genre, effectively being a much more emotional and serious take on the shooters of today, including Call of Duty.

Cage, who leads studio Quantic Dream, responsible for Heavy Rain or the older Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit) titles, has never been one to shy away from mainstream subjects.

War, according to an interview published by CVG, is among them, with the games designer admitting that he would love to tackle the shooter genre with such a project.

“I want to create a genre," revealed Cage. "I want to convince more people that [emotional gaming] is a valid direction for the industry; to show them that this was not just one product, one story. It's a format that can be used to tell any kind of story in any genre with any tone. I would really like the opportunity to work on a different type of game. I would love to see if what we discovered could be applied to a first-person shooter, for example.”

Cage continued, saying that it wouldn't be something that would glorify war, like Call of Duty or other such shooters, instead focusing on offering a realistic point of view on the whole experience.

“War is not fun - talking about what the people involved feel, how horrible it can be for them. This is something I think could be very exciting and very new for the games industry. When we talk about war, it's always a very 'cool' thing - you have these big guns and you kill loads of people.”

This ‘Heavy Rain meets Call of Duty’ project will drive the medium forward, according to Cage, and would help take the role of games one step forward, further establishing them in terms of emotional entertainment.

Cage admitted that Quantic Dream is currently working on a few other projects, but that he is determined to see it through at one point in time.

What do you think? With shooters like Call of Duty, Medal of Honor or Battlefield pushing war shooters into mainstream, is the industry ready for a more emotional take on them?
