If you ever get tired of Populous or if you decide your Black & White creature gets much more attention than you and you want to try something different, then Heaven & Hell may be your source of fun for the next few days. You're
playing again as the divinity. You'll have a choice of 4 nations that you can try your powers at and you can decide to play on the side of good - heaven - or bad - hell. However, there are many ways in which you can convince the people that you are the one they've been waiting for. The game's best feature is the amusing battle of good vs. evil along two campaigns (and up to 8 gods multiplayer games). In this comical cartoon-like world you'll make use of miracles and catastrophes such as rainbows, angels, demons, lightning, earthquakes, floods and plagues.
...And lead us not into temptation - But that's the whole point! Indulge yourself.
Take on the amusing role of a soul snatcher who wields omniscient power. Play Heaven & Hell: convince the cute and cuddly Earth dwellers that you're the long-awaited Redeemer who'll bring salvation to their chaotic world. Let no one doubt the truthfulness of your message. Your faithful fanatics launch rotten fruits and vegetables at opposing prophets, while your prophets pummel doubters into holy submission. Alternatively, use miracles and plagues to lead the disbelieving to the path of the righteous. This way, your flock shall grow and grow and grow...
In the hilarious battle that awaits you, two things may prove to be quite helpful:
cheats and a
FAQ. Lets start with the cheats, 'cause that's the most useful (unless you want to play fair). However, you may wish to make a backup or at least remember the initial value in case you change your mind about cheating.
To get as much Mana as you need simply save a game and go to the
Savegames folder. Your saved game will have its own folder. Click on this folder and open the
MissionData.save file using Notepad.
If you are playing the Good side, then change the settings under
BaseState = hbsGood; If you are playing the Evil side, then change the settings under
BaseState = hbsBad; Find the entry that looks like this:
EnergyCount = 1111; Simply change the amount to as much Mana as you need. Save your changes, start the game and load your position.
FAQ
General QuestionsWhat kind of game is Heaven & Hell?
It's a divine build-up-game. Or a constructing godgame. Whatever you want to call it!
Okaaay... what exactly will I do in the game?
You play a good or evil god and try everything to convince the population of your faith - in real time. The problem: Your opponent does the same. So you work wonders with your "hand of power" on a colorful map full of cute people. Lightning, chain-lightning, or frog plagues and other catastrophes show your wishy-washy population who's in charge.
Will I just conjure, or are there other ways to influence my people?
You will construct special buildings in up to 16 cities to convince your potential disciples: A fast-food restaurant will attract the customers to the Dark Side of the Force, while a harmless merry-go-round generates good people. And then there are your prophets, who step in with more wonders!
Gameplay QuestionsWhat are those prophets doing? Just preaching?
At the very beginning, the nations are neutral. After a little preaching, your first fans deflect. But for the more persistent inhabitants, your up to seven prophets have to be up on every trick. They construct roads for caravans delivering "good" and "evil" goods, conjure demons or archangels, or, for god's sake, call in the Last Judgement. Tricky players let their secret prophet steal mana from their opponent or combine different prophets to perform very invidious wonders. We've got day and night shifts as well: During the day, the good god has the advantage - for example, wonders cost less mana. But when the night comes around and a few torches and camp fires try to lighten up the dark, evil storms the front.
Are there any missions, or will I play completely aimless?
We have not only missions, but two full-blown campaigns as well - one for good, one for evil gods. You'll meet the different prophets who will introduce themselves in a personal video. Besides the campaigns, you can fight in ready-made scenarios or have the integrated, fully automated mission generator design a new one. Every mission is different and tricky: Instead of conjuring aimlessly, you'll have to use your hand of power and prophets wisely - or the rival god will pinch your tributaries.
How about multiplayer-missions?
Don't panic, that's something we offer, too. Up to eight gods can struggle for innocent civilians at the same time. You can play in teams evil vs. good, with optional AI gods.
