Former model and animal rights activist Heather Mills, also known as the former wife of Beatles member Paul McCartney, got £24.3 million as a divorce settlement when she and McCartney went their separate ways after 4 years of marriage. Part of the money was supposed to provide for the future of Heather and Paul’s daughter, Bea, which the star saw to – and the rest is almost gone, as the Express claims.

Heather Mills spend most of the £24.3 million she got as part of her settlement in the divorce case in just 22 months, which means, by some simple math, less than two years. However, the star did not just throw the money down the drain, spending like crazy as some might be tempted to believe: part of it went to securing Bea’s future, while the rest went almost entirely to charity.

“Heather Mills has spent the majority of her £24.3 million divorce settlement from Sir Paul McCartney – in just 22 months. The couple separated in 2006 after four years of marriage, leading to an ugly public divorce battle. The union was officially dissolved in 2008 and the former Beatle was ordered to hand over part of his fortune to Mills, as well as annual payments for the former couple’s young daughter, Beatrice,” Express writes.

Even if tabloids had a field day with the Mills-McCartney divorce, with some even saying she would receive £50 million only under the condition to never badmouth her ex, this report comes with confirmation from Mills herself, the Express says. “Most of it’s been given to charity, gone into ethical businesses or paid for a couple of properties for my daughter’s future security. I could never sit with millions of pounds in the bank that could make matters change,” the former model is quoted as saying.

Because of the prolonged and highly mediated divorce proceedings, Heather Mills does not enjoy a good relationship with the media, often threatening to sue major publications that would speculate on her personal life or even print photos of her on personal spare time. Nevertheless, her merits as an environmentalist and active campaigner for certain issues close to her heart, have also gotten her plenty of positive media.
