Heather Mills revealed that she felt "suicidal" and "persecuted" after the press launched a hate campaign directed at her since her split from Sir Paul McCartney. It's no secret that the former model is currently involved in a bitter divorce battle with the Beatles legend - but we never had any idea that there was such an amount of drama involved.
Mills claims she has been the victim of a media hate campaign, received death threats and has compared the way she was treated to the way the press treated Princess Diana and Kate McCann, whose four-year-old daughter Madeline disappeared in Portugal earlier this year. "They make up such lies" she complained tearfully and referring to the British press, "they've called me a whore, a gold digger, a fantasist, a liar, the most unbelievably hurtful things, and I've stayed quiet for my daughter".
"We've had death threats, I've been close to suicide. I considered killing myself because I thought if I am dead, my daughter can be safe with her father. I'm so upset about this. I've had worse press than a pedophile or a murderer and I've done nothing but charity for 20 years. I have been persecuted. What did the paparazzi do to Princess Diana? They chased her and they killed her", she stated. Well, I'm sure it hasn't been very pleasant for her but really, I think she is exaggerating just a little bit.
She added to UK TV show GMTV that, in fact, she is the one who has to put up with a tremendous amount of abuse. "I am the one that is abused daily. I have protected Paul for this long and I am trying to protect him but I am being pushed to the edge. These figures are made up, £100 million, £50 million, £20 million. I am £1.5 million in debt in lawyers' fees. I could sell my story right now. When did I ask for anything?" OK, now that was definitely a hint at something bigger, and I do wish she stopped being so mysterious and cryptic about it, just for once.
Heather split from Paul in May 2006 after being married to him for four years and now claims that living in the UK is like "living in a prison". She is even planning to launch a campaign to change European law to force the media to treat her fairly. She said: "I will fight back. I need to get everybody to petition that they don't want to be lied to any more by the press". Fair enough.
