Video game developer BL-Logic and publisher Paradox Entertainment have announced a new game called East vs. West: A Hearts of Iron Game, which is set to take the core mechanics of the series to the era when the United States of America and the USSR were facing each other with fingers close to the nuclear button.

Gamers will be able to take control of any nation in the world between 1948 and 1991 and then use a wide array of tools, from armies, navies, nuclear weapons and aircraft to diplomacy, economy and espionage, to reach their own goals.

The game includes important elements of the era such as the Security Council of the United Nations, which handles diplomatic and war related disputes, and the Doomsday Clock, which shows gamers how close the world gets to nuclear destruction.

East vs. West: A Hearts of Iron Game will be launched on the PC during the second quarter of 2013.
