The biggest announcement from last week’s Paradox Convention was Hearts of Iron IV, which will allow gamers to once again visit the battlefield of World War II and create their own version of history using their favorite nations.

The developers have promised that the game will keep the depth that has attracted long-term fans to the experience, while making the core mechanics more accessible for newcomers.

A preview from Destructoid is suggesting that the team will accomplish this by significantly expanding the battle plan feature, which allows gamers to pause the game and give complex orders to their armies and battle groups.

This means that large engagements can be planned and then executed quickly, without fiddling with the placement of each individual unit.

Paradox will offer more information on the core game mechanics of its next grand strategy title in the coming months.

Hearts of Iron IV will be launched in early 2015 on the PC.
