Hearthstone's much requested spectator mode is apparently toward the top of the development team's to-do list, and "in active development," according to the game's producer.

Since the launch of Hearthstone's beta at the beginning of last year, Blizzard's collectible card game became something of a sensation, garnering an unexpected audience on popular streaming services such as Twitch.

"One of our most requested features is a spectator or observer mode. We want to make tournaments easier to stream. We want to capture that 'over the shoulder' feeling when you're watching friends play," Hearthstone Producer Yong Woo told Game Informer.

The official spectator mode for Hearhstone would potentially enable players to come online, see which of their friends are playing what, and jump into their friends' games and watch them play, and offer valuable advice or appropriate mockery.

"There's a hunger for more social elements," explained Woo, "and we want to explore social experiences through this mode, offer that to your friends."

For the time being, Blizzard offered no prospective release date for the spectator mode, but Woo mentioned that "it's coming along."

For the time being, the latest development regarding Hearthstone is the addition of the much sought-after Solo Adventure, titled The Curse of Naxxramas: A Hearthstone Adventure, consisting of a series of thematic boss fights versus computer-controlled opponents.
